Was facing CNC, UPS & chiller vfd drives electronics card failures, lighting ballast, and motor burning issues and in addition voltage sag (fluctuation) tripping for CNC m/c. Local Utility company/ TNEB mandated limiting harmonics at it 11kv.
RESULTS ACHIEVED
Installed 831A main transformer and a 88A chiller end harmonic filters, mitigated harmonics within IEEE 519 norms, and eliminated all failures.

Abstract: In this case study, a world leader in non-ferrous metal industry engaged in the manufacturing ACSR conductors for HT and EHV electrical power transmissions and distributions, had been facing high incidence of operational problems across its plants A and B, due to bad Power Quality and high harmonic distortions with its electrical power systems. The problem arose because of two reasons. First, it was using over 60% Non-Linear-Loads in the forms of DC-drives in rolling mills, Variable-Frequency-Drives (VFD) in the conductor making process and PLC in control system.

Problem of electrical blast from VFD harmonics; and a methodology for trouble shooting and increasing productivity

 Abstract - An IPP with a 25mw power plant and a 5000TCD sugar milling unit was facing a power quality harmonic distortion problem that starting with occasional tripping of its power plant eventually forced it to shut down its operation for several days. It had completed its first anniversary without any harmonic problem but during its 2nd years of operation it started off with a massive blast of a 6300A incomer ACB at the power plant's auxiliary PCC panel. Within a span of next 4-weeks it blasted off one by one several other switch gears, ACBs and MCCBs.
